HITMS Approves Key Academic Reforms at 3rd Board of Studies Session

The 3rd Meeting of the Board of Studies (BoS) was successfully held in the meeting room beside the Rector’s Office at Hyderabad Institute for Technology & Management Sciences (HITMS). The session focused on reviewing and approving major academic matters related to curriculum development, Outcome-Based Education (OBE), and program structure.

The meeting was chaired by Dr. Zahoor Hussain Shah, Head of Department Computer Science and Related Studies & Dean FCET, HITMS, and attended by distinguished academic experts including Prof. Dr. Shahid Muneer (SZABIST), Prof. Dr. Shazia Abbasi (University of Sindh), and Dr. Erum Shaikh (Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University, Sanghar).

Following detailed deliberations, the Board discussed and approved several important agenda items:

Implementation of Outcome-Based Education (OBE)
The Board reviewed and approved the framework for implementing OBE across academic programs. The approach emphasizes aligning teaching, learning, and assessment with clearly defined learning outcomes to ensure measurable academic achievement and compliance with national and international standards.

Mapping of Graduate Attributes (GAs)
The Board approved the mapping of Graduate Attributes with Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs). This framework ensures graduates develop essential professional competencies, ethical values, problem-solving skills, and lifelong learning abilities, forming a strong foundation for curriculum delivery and assessment.

Adoption of Bloom’s Taxonomy
To enhance curriculum design and evaluation methods, the Board approved the adoption of Bloom’s Taxonomy. Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs) will be categorized across cognitive levels—from basic knowledge and understanding to higher-order skills such as analysis, evaluation, and creation—ensuring progressive and measurable learning.

Approval of Schemes of Studies for BS Programs
The Board reviewed and approved detailed Schemes of Studies for the following undergraduate programs:

  • BS Computer Science (BSCS)
  • BS Software Engineering (BSSE)
  • BS FinTech

These approved schemes are aligned with OBE principles, industry requirements, emerging technologies, and academic regulations. Each program structure includes appropriate course distribution, credit hour allocation, and robust assessment mechanisms.

The meeting concluded with a collective commitment from all members to uphold academic excellence, innovation, and quality assurance, ensuring that HITMS continues to deliver industry-relevant and future-focused education.
